'With Honour and Distinction': Susan Rice Clarifies...And, Honestly, Just Makes It Worse

'What I was referring to is the fact that this was a young man who volunteered to serve his country in uniform at a time of war. That in itself is a very honorable thing.  Certainly anybody who’s been held in those conditions, in captivity for five years, has paid an extraordinary price. But that is really not the point. The point is that he’s back. He is going to be safely reunited with his family. He served the United States with honor and distinction.'

- Susan Rice, National Security Advisor, Normandy, France, 6 June 2014

Mrs Rice, he also voluntarily took his uniform off and abandoned his brothers-in-arms during a time of war.

That in itself is a very dishonourable thing to do.

Have you not heard any of Bergdahl's platoon members speak about his 'honourable' service?  How many troops, who have allegedly 'served with honour and distinction', go AWOL 3 times, at least, in less than a year - twice in country?  Bergdahl graduated from infantry school in Fort Benning, Georgia, in late 2008.  He disappeared on the evening of 30 June 2009.  THREE TIMES!!!

Eddie Slovik put on a US military uniform during WWII, too, but then he deserted. Rather than the FDR administration going on the radio (or, as Joe Biden might tell it, the internet!) to protect, defend, and praise him, Slovik was court martialed, convicted in a trial that lasted about an hour, and E-X-E-C-U-T-E-D for desertion on 31 January 1945...and he NEVER sought out the enemy.

The idea that just volunteering and putting on a uniform during a time of war is enough to make one's service, in and of itself, honourable and distinct is just absurd and offencive to one's comrades-in-arms, who actually did serve with honour and distinction, along with placing themselves in grave risk searching for the vile, little bastard, who voluntarily took off that uniform and voluntarily abandoned his brothers.

Floating such catergorisation is prompting a visceral anger and hatred in this country.

Sgt Bergdahl was NOT, is NOT, and will NEVER be Sgt Alvin York, so stop trying to turn a deserter into a hero.
